Our inspiration comes from nature; the way lines form between different plant communities blending seamlessly, the way rock, sand, & gravel are arranged by flowing water, & the way nutrients, water and energy cycle between plants, air, and soil. With this inspiration, science and engineering become art.

In order for a landscape to survive, it must make sense... in nature. The further from nature a landscape is designed, the more maintenance it requires to sustain itself.

The beauty of designing and building landscapes is finding the balance between the natural and built environments.

In a rural setting, the existing vegetation, topography, soils, and hydrology lead the design. Human references, such as benches, walls, and pathways, are added to enhance the observer’s senses and connection to the natural surroundings.

In an urban setting, the plat lines, a building’s architectural lines, and runoff/ drainage patterns lead the design. Plants, water features, and pathways are added to provide a transition between the private, indoor space and the public, urban space. They calm the senses and sooth the soul.
